Evening meals here in rural Isaan revolve around the local village markets.
Each village can host the market 3 days a week.
The other 4 days you have to go to an adjacent village to get your food there.
The local markets may have up to 100 different food vendors.
Each family will have a specialty and sell it at the market.
Any kind of Thai food, sushi, grilled fish, fried chicken, fresh fruit and vegetables, even donuts and frozen drinks.
The vendors prepare their dishes at home in large pots and pans, then transport to the market where they will set up a table for sale.
When you order, they will scoop out a serving into a plastic bag, so you can take it home, re-heat it and eat it there.
In rural Isaan meals are between 30 thb and 60 thb each (US $0.94 and $1.88 depending on what it is.
It is the way of life here, where many are so tired from working manual labor all day that they do not want to have to cook.
