The cost of fruit is very cheap in rural Isaan.
Probably cheaper to buy than to grow, unless you have years to wait while you plant trees.
Today I found some Rambutan, 35 thb per kilo or 3 kilos for 90 thb (US $3.00).
The other day, Maifa was 10thb per kilo.
Mangoes are always cheap in the local markets, starting at 10 thb per kilo.
It’s interesting many people make a living buying fruit wholesale direct from the farms, then trucking it to the local markets for resale.
When we bought 17 kgs of Maifa, we were asked if we would like wholesale pricing, which was only 5 thb per Kg.
Some locals buy the fruit at wholesale 5kg a kilo and then the fruit resold in local markets for 20 to 30 thb per kg.
Rural Isaan offers a vast selection of fresh fruit year round.
A fruit lover’s paradise!
Fresh, home-grown pineapples, 8 for 100 thb.
