Cost of Living

It wasn’t too long ago, this same Thai food dish was 30 thb in the food court at Lotus’s.

Today’s price is now 55 thb and it is not fresh or good tasting.

During this 25 thb food increase, Thai people’s wages here have not gone up 1 baht.

They are still earning the same amount when the meal was only 30 thb.

One of the reasons rural Isaan is sliding further and further into deeper poverty.

With no increase in wages and rising costs across the board here, people are forced to do without.

Years ago the food court would be packed with people and today just a handful.

55 thb is 1/6th of the total earnings a person here earns working all day cutting sugarcane (300 thb per day).

It is not going to get any better, as cost to farm and others things are going up so high, there is no money to be made.

Very sad, but that is the reality of life here in rural Isaan.
