When you live out in the rural farmlands of Isaan, visiting the city is like going on a holiday.
No kidding!
Khon Kaen is a city with every kind of western fast food and a giant mall.
Where we live in rural Isaan, there is none of that.
Only local Mom and Pop open-air food shops and local vendor food markets.
No brand name stores, malls, movies. Nothing.
Visiting a city that is full of life is a welcome pace from living in the countryside.
The cities have everything expats could ever ask for.
For, the traffic is not worth braving, so we limit going to the city and try to go during the week and not the weekends.
Also, the cost of things are crazy compare to the rural Isaan villages.
One western meal at a brand name fast food place costs the same as almost 20 meals from the local market.
Getting to the city is a treat, and lucky we are only about 1.5 hours away.
Living in rural Isaan it still it for us.
Peace and quite, no traffic, no issues and an easy life.
