That’s the Way It Is

If, as a foreigner, you expect to survive living in rural Isaan, there are many things you will just have to accept.

That is the way it is here, and there won’t be any changing to meet your liking.

You have to have a high threshold for letting things slide and accepting that’s the way things are here.

A combination of a serious lack of education, no reasoning or common sense, means most of the locals are going to do things the same way they always have.

Right or wrong, that is the way things are done here.

You have to accept the most stupidest things and behaviors you will ever see in your life.

If you cannot, living in rural Isaan will turn into a stressful nightmare.

You have to be able to laugh in the face of stupidity because it is everywhere.

The other day I was turning right with my right blinker on, just as I started to turn, a motorbike with 2 young girls ( to young to have a license) passed me on the right. Had I not been watching in my mirror, they could have easily been killed.

Yet they think nothing of it.

You have to try to stay focused on the positives while keep telling yourself, that is the way it is here.

Lack of education is a dangerous thing.
